Here is some more information outlining what we look for in our volunteers: 

Keep in mind many of our trips happen in the wilderness, that means no smartphones, or take out, or electricity…you get the idea.

For these trips we are looking for volunteers who possess many or all of the following traits:

For these trips we are looking for volunteers who possess many or all of the following traits:

  • thrive on early mornings and late nights (don’t worry there is always coffee)
  • are happy to be stripped of all worldly possessions and creature comforts
  • are positive in all situations
  • are easy going and fun to be around
  • function well under pressure and when tired
  • are able to self-monitor for fatigue, thirst, hunger, and any discomforts and make their needs know if necessary BUT ALSO understand that not all concerns need to be verbalized
  • thrive on a team environment
  • are not afraid to be the strongest and the weakest (mentally and physically) person in the group at times
  • are backcountry Jamie Olivers
  • are comfortable not knowing the plan especially when there isn’t one AND adapting with plans that change
  • have wilderness first aid
  • are Tarpologists and shelter experts in very sudden weather changes
  • have a fun personality
  • can assist or have knowledge providing personal care
  • love to make dreams come true
  • are adaptive, flexible and willing to volunteer for painful, awkward, vulnerable and abusive assignments (to achieve the group’s goals)
  • are able to follow direction
  • enjoy the journey as much (or more than) the destination
  • experience in wilderness camping in remote settings

If you have additional skills in the following please let us know!

Hiking

  • have experience in operating a TrailRider (front, back, or harness) in remote wilderness terrain (this can be learned)
  • are comfortable in, and traveling through, dynamic conditions and diverse terrain while carrying expedition style packs (50lbs give or take 10 lbs) and are still able assist with the TrailRider.

Cycling

  • experience piloting a tandem bicycle for long periods
  • are comfortable in, and travelling through, dynamic conditions and diverse terrain while piloting a tandem bicycle

Paddling

  • experience piloting a tandem kayak or other boat on ocean/unpredictable waters for extended periods
  • are comfortable in, and travelling through, dynamic conditions while piloting a tandem kayak

Rock Climbing

  • have rock climbing experience
  • are comfortable climbing in dynamic conditions and on diverse terrain while carrying expedition style packs and still able assist other climbers and/or TrailRider depending on terrain.
